Fun Foot Facts

At any one of the four Podiatry Associates, P.C. offices in metro Denver, the specialists and doctors on hand promote a pain free life. Foot and ankle pain can be debilitating and that’s particularly distressing to Coloradans who appreciate the outdoor lifestyle that our state’s 300+ days of sunshine a year offers.

The fact is that being outdoors means being active. These foot facts are not only interesting but fun to share:

  • The foot has 26 bones, 33 joints and 100+ tendons, muscles and ligaments.
  • The average moderately active person takes approximately 7,500 step/day. By age 80, a person has walked about 216,262,500 steps. That’s a distance of about 110,000 miles.
  • You too can be a shoe model if you wear a size 6B shoe.
  • Today, the average American woman wears a shoe size between 8.5 and 9.
  • The average male shoe size worldwide is 9-12.
  • In the 1950s, parents put stiff ankle height tie-up shoes on baby’s feet thinking it was better for the child’s fee than going barefoot. Today, experts recommend baby not wear shoes until the child is walking confidently. Walking barefoot inside the house allows a baby to balance while feeling the floor beneath.
  • When you wear flip-flops, your toes need to work extra hard to keep the flip-flop on your foot, which can cause hammertoe over time. Lack of support can cause plantar fasciitis.
  • The most common foot injuries include bruises, puncture wounds, injuries to ligaments that support joints, ruptured Achilles tendon, sprains, and fractures.

Founder and owner Dr. Cynthia Oberholtzer-Classen has a passion to keep her patients doing what they love. Throughout Dr. O’s career she has been able to help her patients return to the activities that they love by providing care to their foot and ankle only to find that patients still had difficulty due to weakness and muscle imbalances. This is why she founded a Physical Therapy department. Physical Therapy has proved to be an integral part of Podiatry Associates, P.C. and the well-rounded care that she offers. Our physical therapists in Castle Pines can help patients with foot and ankle rehabilitation, as well as therapy for other parts of your body. They also offer one-on-one personal training after your physical therapy to keep you as healthy as possible.
